The Austin Zoo has a new addition. His name is Jason, and he’s learning to box.

The one-and-a-half-year-old red kangaroo, made his zoo debut this week. Georgetown animal control confiscated him from a man who bought the marsupial illegally. Head zookeeper Sara King says zoo staff are helping him adjust to his new home.

Despite some recent light rain, the Lower Colorado River Authority continues to urge Texans to conserve water. Central Texas' rainfall levels are 17 and a half inches below average.

LCRA meteorologist Bob Rose said it could be months before lake levels return to normal, if past droughts are any indication.

The Austin Police Department is asking for help to find car burglars who counted a radioactive camera among their loot.

In a press release, APD  said the theft occurred on South I-35. The stolen device is used to identify leaky pipes. It contains a radioactive material that could be dangerous to those who come into contact with it and the surrounding areas.

Police say there is no evidence that the suspect meant to steal the dangerous camera.

Farmers, business owners, environmentalists, power plant developers and homeowners have agreed on a set of changes for the next Lower Colorado River Authority Water Management Plan.

The committee finalized its suggested plan Tuesday. The LCRA board will vote on it at their August 24 meeting. Their approval would send it to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for a final decision.

The Austin Fire Department only responded to two fires on the 4th of July, compared to 50 on last New Year's Eve.

AFD Battalion Chief Thayer Smith attributes the reduction of fire to people complying with a statewide personal fireworks ban. Texas school districts are responding to the newest innovation in nutrition guidelines from the The U.S. Department of Agriculture. The USDA today unveiled MyPlate. It's a graphic rendition of suggested proportional portion sizes for fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins and dairy.
