AM Update: KUT's New Digs, Texas Exes Earn Olympic Hardware, Houston Releases Shooter Survival Video

KUT Has Officially Moved

After more than three decades, KUT has emerged from Communications Building B on the University of Texas-Austin campus – to a brand new building right across the street.

The new KUT Public Media Studios is on the corner of Guadalupe and Dean Keeton. Finally visible, with windows and with an environmentally responsible building, the new location is home to a 72-seat performance studio, outdoor stage, and production studios.

We’re happy to finally have a space to match what we strive for in innovation, responsibility, and interaction – and to be able to see outside!

The studios are located inside UT’s new Belo Center for New Media.

Former UT Swimmers Collect Olympic Medals

Former UT swimmer Brendan Hansen earned the bronze medal in 100m breaststroke last night.

Hansen was placed in the lane reserved for the slowest competitor – lane 8 – after barely qualifying for the finals. For added pressure, Kosuke Kitajima, Hansen’s archrival and the man who had beaten him for medals in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, was swimming in the lane next to him.

Hansen swam a 59.49 for third place – beating Kitajima by .30 seconds.

Two other Texas Exes, Ricky Berens and Jimmy Feigen, picked up silver medals for the 400m freestyle relay final. While they were not swimming in the finals, they were a part of the team in the morning prelims.

Berens didn’t make the 200m freestyle final but will have a shot at the 800m freestyle relay.

Houston Produces Video on Protection from Mass Shootings

In light of the recent shootings in Colorado, the City of Houston has released an instructional video on how to survive a mass shooting.

The Mayor’s office of Public Safety and Homeland Security made the video a few months ago. They were waiting for the right time to release it.

The video’s three main recommendations are to “run, hide, fight.”
