Cedar Park Cancels Fourth of July Fireworks
The number of places where you can catch Independence Day fireworks in Central Texas is quickly shrinking. Cedar Park is the latest municipality to announce it is canceling its patriotic pyrotechnics display because of dry conditions and the potential for high winds.
Austin and Round Rock have already canceled their fireworks. Kyle is planning to go ahead as planned and is anticipating big crowds. Concern about managing large crowds prompted San Marcos to cancel its fireworks show; the fire marshal there was worried about logistics.
Currently, 235 of 254 Texas counties have burn bans in effect amid one of the worst droughts on record. Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said the drought is so bad, it declared most of the state a disaster zone.
The City of Cedar Park's communication department posted this video to YouTube a few days ago to warn people about the fireworks ban.
