Austin's has another big event this weekend. The seventh annual Fun Fun Fun Fest is taking place all weekend long at Auditorium Shores. The eclectic three-day festival promises underground music from all genres, along with comedy, extreme sports, food, fashion, and art.
Stay tuned to KUT News for updates from the festival, and maybe even a Ryan Gosling sighting or two. Until then, here's a preview of some of the events taking place at Fun Fun Fun Fest, along with fest-related aftershows.
Night: For the hip-hop lovers, rap legends Run DMC and Bun B will take the stage. Hipsters will rejoice to the sounds of Santigold and Twin Sister. If that's not enough, a series of skateboard and BMX sessions are kicking off, and will run all weekend. Each day of the festival also promises two hours of Anarchy Championship Wrestling.
Day: Saturday brings out the largest collection of big acts during the festival. The college crowd is faced with a scheduling conflict between mash-up producer Girl Talk and hip-hop artist A$AP Rocky, who are both Saturday night. Indie Rockers can chill to Minus the Bear or Real Estate. Alt rock lovers will love The Head and the Heart and underground supergroup Diamond Rugs. David Cross will be doing a stand-up comedy set and there will be a FFF Dating game.
Aftershows: New Orleans bounce artist Nicky Da B and Austin nightlife personality Christeene will be putting the "Dirty" in Dirty South at The Belmont. Austin rockers Balmorhea will perform at Club Deville and local DJs Learning Secrets will perform with Brooklyn duo Tanlines at Elysium.
Day: Japanadroids and local group Hundred Visions will be rocking loud, The Black Angels and Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros keep things suitably psychedelic, and De La Soul represent the old school. Local improv kings The New Movement will be performing live comedy sketches, while adults will share their most embarrassing childhood stories live on-onstage with Mortified.
Fun Fun Fun Fest promoters are emphasizing alternative transportation to get to the festival. They encourage everyone to bus, bike, shuttle, walk, carpool, pedicab, or cab to Auditorium Shores. The Bouldin Creek neighborhood will be open to local residents only. There is no parking allowed for the festival in Bouldin Creek neighborhood.
