A small U.S. Postal Service mail processing center in Austin is one of ten such centers in Texas that could be closed next year. The Postal Service announced yesterday that it’s moving forward with measures to cut $3 billion in costs. The Postal Service is dealing with record losses and a decline in mail volume. The agency expects to start closing processing centers in April. The closures will slow delivery of first class mail.
A Postal Service spokesman told KUT while the Austin Annex location may close, Austin's larger mail processing facility may expand as other centers across the state are shut down.
