Kathie Tovo unseated incumbent Randi Shade in Saturday's Austin City Council runoff election
Kathie Tovo has been elected to the Austin City Council.
Tovo defeated incumbent Randi Shade in today's runoff election, 56-44%. Turnout between early voting and Election Day was 9.5%, according to the Travis County Clerk's office.
The race became contentious, with each side trading barbs about public safety funding, city support for Formula One racing and election law violations 33 days since the city general election.
Tovo will be sworn in on June 28, alongside reelected Council Members Laura Morrison and Chris Riley.
