2012 Presidential Election

Last night Republican presidential hopefuls converged in New Hampshire for yet another debate. As we’ve reported on KUT in the past, Governor Perry’s recent slip in the polls meant that Tuesday’s job-focused debate was an important chance for him to show he’s still a major contender in this race.

So how did he do?

With all the attention on the GOP presidential primary, it can be hard to remember that recent polls show voters are still evenly split on who they want to win the 2012 election. 

LEBANON, New Hampshire —  Gov. Rick Perry's chief rival for the GOP presidential nomination picked up a key endorsement from popular New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. 

The announcement that Christie will support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney came just hours before a debate that will be crucial for Perry, who saw his poll numbers drop after poor showings in the previous rounds. 

Mitt Romney, the GOP presidential front runner, is expected to announce the support of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie this afternoon. That's a nice little boost heading into tonight's GOP debate at Dartmouth College.

All eyes are on the top three GOP presidential candidates tonight - with each hoping to answer lingering questions about their ability to win the nomination.

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Gov. Rick Perry may be unveiling what's being called a "major pillar" of his jobs plan this Friday in Pittsburgh.

Ray Sullivan, the Perry campaign's communications director told MSNBC's Chuck Todd this morning that the speech wouldn't be the full reveal, but he said the speech would be a "significant policy rollout." He said it concern how job creation, energy independence and "how to reduce our dependence on hostile countries supplying energy and oil to our country."

Rep. Ron Paul of Texas pushed aside GOP presidential front-runners Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry in a straw poll at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.
