You think moving a piano is a pain now: Try doing it over rough terrain ... with no moving van.

Some of the women who came with their families to Texas in the early days of the 1800's insisted on bringing their pianos with them. While many of these women came from more genteel Southern backgrounds, the rough and rugged environment in Texas did nothing to dampen their spirits or enthusiasm.

U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison broke ranks from her party on Thursday to urge Gov. Rick Perry — her opponent in the 2010 Texas governor's race — to re-negotiate with the Obama administration to keep federal funding for the Medicaid Women's Health Program.

Dewhurst Releases First TV Ad

David Dewhurst really wants you to know that he’s ready to cut government spending. The Texas Lieutenant Governor is running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison. And his new TV ad mentions cutting spending three times in a mere 30 seconds.

“We’ve got to cut spending. We’ve got to prioritize. We’ve got to choke down government,” a buttoned-down Dewhurst says the spot on top of video of him walking through the Texas Capitol and talking to people.

The final three seconds of the commercial show Dewhurst in his rancher's gear – jeans, big belt buckle and blue collared shirt – walking with his wife and daughter down a country road with a horse in tow.

Austinite Could Become First Openly Gay US Attorney in Texas

Texas may get its first openly gay U.S. attorney. The San Antonio Express-News reports President Obama is set to nominate U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Lee Pitman of Austin as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas, an area that stretches from El Paso to Austin.
