Former Longhorn quarterback Vince Young graduated from the University of Texas at Austin Friday with a bachelor’s degree in Youth and Community Studies. He Tweeted a blurry photo of himself receiving his diploma and thanked "everyone who supported me through the good and bad."

Vince Young Tweets His Defense

Vince Young has taken to Twitter to defend himself against media scrutiny, including reports the former Longhorn has hit hard times. Yesterday, Young tweeted

"It’s a shame to see people revel in and rally around negativity in the media but I guess it’s to be expected. Yes, I need a job, who doesn’t.”

Young has taken to Twitter ever since the Associated Press released a story describing his financial and occupational difficulties.

The AP wrote on Wednesday that “Vince Young finds himself without a team and with only a fraction of the money he received from a contract that guaranteed him $26 million.” A quote from his attorney was also included, stating: "I would just say that Vince needs a job."

In his defense, Young tweeted the following:

We are working to rectify some unfortunate finical (sic) losses, which stemmed from betrayal by those I trusted most.

But these rumors are disheartening & just untrue . I’ll keep pushing through regardless. God Bless. Trill

Vince Young Encourages Teens to Go to College

UT Austin football great Vince Young is back in town today to promote higher education.

Young is the spokesperson for Generation Texas — a group that asked everyone to wear their favorite college t-shirt today in hopes of inspiring high school grads to pursue a college degree.

Young, of course, is sporting a Longhorns t-shirt. He spoke to students at Del Valle High School this morning and told KUT they seemed excited about the possibility of going to college.

Committee Supports Expanding City Council, District Representation

Yesterday, a city committee recommended a major change to the Austin City Council: That it expand from seven members to 11, and members move from city-wide (at-large) representation to district representation.  The recommendation was far from unanimous, passing on an 8-7 vote.

Weekend Road Closures, Delays

A couple of popular events this weekend could create traffic delays downtown. Batfest and Night of the Bats is tomorrow from 1:00 p.m. to midnight on the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. Congress will be closed between Cesar Chavez and Barton Springs starting at 5:00 a.m. Saturday through 4:00 a.m. Sunday.
